Associate Director, Translation Imaging Lead 

 

The Associate Director, Translation Imaging Lead supports the development of the strategic guidance for the clinical imaging portfolio in close collaboration with the (Sr.) Dir. Clinical Imaging and works towards drug development deliverables. This individual will primarily focus on ensuring that oncology clinical programs are using appropriate imaging techniques from preclinical through registration phases of development, which entails directly working with preclinical and development teams within the drug development process. You will enable preclinical and clinical teams by employing state-of-the-art imaging strategies and suggesting (emerging) imaging approaches and techniques that will aid the development of new drugs.

 

The Associate Director, Translation Imaging Lead is the contact point for incorporating imaging biomarkers for decision-making purposes from D2 through to D8 and will achieve the above by relying on collaboration throughout the organization, in particular in Drug Discovery and Development. The Associate Director, Translation Imaging Lead will ensure that clinical imaging activities adhere to regulatory and industry standards.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Associate Director, Translation Imaging Lead are to:

 

Portfolio Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for assigned development programs with regard to advising on appropriate use of imaging biomarkers and techniques and on the appropriate implementation in clinical trials (imaging acquisition and analysis techniques, imaging documents including charters, image collection, quality control and archiving) in cooperation with the Radiology GCIS team or external imaging CRO;
  • Contributes to the Integrated Program Team (IPT) and supports relevant Oncology assessments for IPT when evaluating and developing translation and imaging strategies;
  • Acts as thought partner to early research leaders, proactively following early projects prior to D2, and taking an active role from D2 onwards, assembling resources for subsequent imaging activities on the project;
  • Participates and develops leadership skills; co-leads motivated and engaged teams while role modelling and fosters effective team behavior to achieve development program goals. 

 

Responsibilities beyond portfolio:

 

  • In alignment with the overall oncology strategy and Translational Sciences community, identifies new opportunities for collaboration and manages excellent relationships with new and existing partners, both within as well as outside of Bayer, to drive Imaging excellence;

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Must have one of the following: a) Medical doctor (MD or MD/PhD) or imaging scientist (PhD) trained in radiology, nuclear medicine, imaging physics or image analysis including some industry experience, OR b) a Master's degree trained in radiology, nuclear medicine, imaging physics or image analysis including more industry experience  OR c) a Bachelors’ degree trained in radiology, nuclear medicine,  imaging physics or image analysis including significant  industry experience;   
  • Track record in research and/or clinical development (including first experiences in oncology applications with emphasis on radiological and /or PET/SPECT imaging and biomarker use);
  • Experience with preclinical imaging in oncology drug development (PET, SPECT, CT, bioluminescence, MRI…)
  • Thorough understanding of imaging and clinical development in oncology; experiences with regulatory framework for biomarkers, and use of imaging for registration of Oncology products are helpful. Experience interacting with imaging CROs;
  • Good scientific reputation as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals and preferably as speaker of conferences and strong network in the academic and clinical imaging community;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (fluency in English, oral and written) 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • One of the following: a) Medical doctor (MD or MD/PhD) or imaging scientist (PhD) trained in  radiology, nuclear medicine, imaging physics or image analysis including a minimum of 3 years industry experience, OR b) a Master's degree trained in radiology, nuclear medicine, imaging physics or  image analysis including a minimum of 7 years industry experience,  OR c) a Bachelor's degree trained in radiology, nuclear medicine,  imaging physics or image analysis including a minimum of 8 years  industry experience;
  • Strong network in the academic and clinical community of Oncology.
