Electrical and Instrumentation Technician 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Core1 Electrical and Instrumentation Technician provides advanced Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) skills for all of manufacturing in all areas of the facility. The position has ownership and maintenance of plant electrical distribution equipment, programmable controllers, and process instrumentation. The Core1 Electrical and Instrument Technician provides technical and troubleshooting support to other manufacturing personnel to assist them in the maintenance of their E&I equipment.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Core1 Electrical and Instrumentation Technician are:

 

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, program, and replace electrical equipment and systems such as digital and analog control systems, A/C and D/C control circuits, magnetic starters, interlock systems, alarms and fire protection systems;
  • Maintain and calibrate electrical equipment such as instrument transformers, bushings, bearings, resistors, controllers, solid state devices, and pressure, flow, and level indication devices;
  • Maintain and calibrate high voltage switchgear and equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, and protective relays which control the flow of electricity from the electric company;
  • Set up and test various electrical equipment with the use of special testing devices to measure voltage, current, and resistance or locate faults, malfunctions or device, failures;
  • Work from blueprints, manufacturer bulletins, and instruction manuals to install, troubleshoot or maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment;
  • Study reference manuals, process control diagrams, blueprints and schematics and consult with vendors and manufacturers' representatives to research maintenance problems;
  • Operate various mobile equipment such as trucks, forklifts, and man lifts in the process of installing, repairing, or maintaining the various electrical equipment;
  • Maintain electrical metering and monitoring devices such as recording charts, meters, meggers and scopes;
  • Inspect all E&I equipment in assigned area and perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure continuity of electrical run time;
  • Train, Instruct, and direct the work of apprentices, OME's, contractors, and helpers as assigned by management;
  • Keep records such as daily work reports, preventative maintenance records, equipment maintenance records and instrument calibration records;
  • Prepare various reports such as motor reports, maintenance reports, equipment readings, safety inspections, and other special reports and required by plant supervision for evaluating plant equipment and operations.
  • Timely completion of any training CBT's, MOC's and any other required training or documentation.

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Must Possess one of the following 4 qualifications:  Vocational technology degree in instrumentation, industrial electricity or other industrial related E&I field; OR have five years career experience working with electricity and instrumentation in a manufacturing environment; OR a State Certified Electrician License; OR Internal (Rung II) Electrical Maintenance Skills certification;
  • Valid Drivers’ License. To be eligible to drive a company car, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers – MVR will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening;
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance work instructions, and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to read blueprints, EFD diagrams, and electrical diagrams;
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions;
  • Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs;
  • Ability to work as scheduled by Mfg. Coordinators to execute work throughout the plant; This would include rotating "shift electrician" assignments if required by supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to work shutdown schedules as assigned;
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
